Our chiropractor Karen and our long standing patient Liz, explains all in her own words…
Liz came in to us all the way back in 2018. She was suffering with some calf pain that was hindering her running progression. Here is her story, in her words…..
“When I first started running in 2008 I initially wanted to get fitter and healthier, but I soon realised how much better I felt and how it helped me cope with stress. I never imagined I’d run a marathon someday, as it was an achievement to complete 5k at the time.
As I got better, and braver, I decided I was going to do one marathon with my boyfriend to tick it off the bucket list, so in 2016 we completed New York marathon and got the bug. Since then we’ve just completed the Abbott major marathons and got my 6 star in Boston marathon this year.
It’s taken nearly 7 years to get there and some niggles and injuries along the way, but it was worth it. I remember injuring my calf 3 weeks before running Chicago marathon in 2018 and thinking I’d never get through it, but then I started coming to Whitchurch chiropractic clinic for treatment. I started with some massage treatments initially and surprisingly I managed to run the marathon. I then realised it was all about the prehab rather than waiting for an injury to happen, so I now come every 6-8 weeks for maintenance. And thanks to all the team, I’ve managed to keep running with all their tips and exercises and become one of 12,000 people to be entered into the Six Star Hall of Fame.
I’m one of only 1173 people in the UK with this achievement and there are under 4000 females with this medal in the world. I feel really lucky to have been able to complete this challenge, but realise it takes some pretty hard work, lots of stretching and conditioning and a little bit of grit.”
